The Ankarsrum Assistent Original AKM6230 stands out as a stand mixer in its own league, boasting unparalleled quality and distinctive design. This mixer delivers exceptional power surpassing that of typical mixers, effortlessly tackling any culinary task and particularly exceeds in kneading substantial batches of dough.
Amongst stand mixers, the Ankarsrum Assistent Original stands out for its impressive power, boasting a robust 1500-watt motor. Its innovative design, which revolves around spinning the mixing bowl rather than the tools, eliminates the common issue of gear stripping when excessive force is exerted on them.
With its remarkable power and torque, the Ankarsrum excels in handling challenging tasks like kneading dense bread doughs. It can effortlessly manage large batch loads, handling up to 5kg of dough at once, which is ample for baking six full-sized loaves of bread.
In addition to its impressive power, the Ankarsrum boasts user-friendly controls located on its front panel. A pair of dials simplifies operation: the right-hand dial regulates the rotation speed of the bowl, offering eight selectable levels, which enables users to customise processing strength according to the requirements of different recipes.
Meanwhile, the left-hand dial serves to power the motor on or off, with additional functionality to activate an integrated timer when rotated further. This convenient timer can be adjusted for any duration up to 12 minutes, automatically stopping the motor once the set time elapses, enabling the Assistent Original to operate independently without constant oversight.
In addition to its outstanding performance and array of accessories, the Ankarsrum is crafted to an exceptional standard, unlike many other appliances. The majority of its accessories, particularly those subject to frequent use, are constructed from stainless steel, ensuring prolonged durability and resistance to significant wear over time.
Furthermore, the components that are not crafted from stainless steel are fashioned from premium BPA-free plastics. This not only guarantees they won't release chemicals under heat but also enhances their durability compared to inferior plastic alternatives.
The exceptional build quality extends to the base and supporting components as well. Constructed from die-cast aluminium, the base remains scratch-resistant while maintaining a manageable weight. Additionally, the dials and tool arm, fashioned from polished aluminium, are designed to withstand frequent user interaction without displaying any signs of wear.
To facilitate the mixer’s versatility, the Ankarsrum Assistent is equipped with a range of useful accessories, including:
Utilizing diverse combinations of its accessories, the Ankarsrum can tackle an extensive array of mixing tasks, whether it's kneading substantial quantities of bread or pizza dough or beating batters and cookie mixtures. Such adaptability makes it a versatile tool for almost any baking recipe, significantly reducing time and effort compared to manual methods.
Moreover, as an extra perk, Ankarsrum offers a selection of optional accessories and attachments that can be acquired alongside the Assistent Original, enhancing its versatility even further. These offerings encompass choices like pasta rollers, a meat grinder, and even an ice cream maker.
A charming aspect of the Ankarsrum Assistent is its rich heritage, tracing back to 1937. While some updates have been made since then, the fundamental design and aesthetic have remained consistent over the decades, while incorporating great new features along the way.
Another thing that hasn’t changed over the years is the country of manufacture and despite the growing trend to move everything to China, the Ankarsrum is still made entirely in Sweden.
Ankarsrum manufacture their stand mixers in Sweden since 1940 which is why they are so robust and durable.
Yes, The Ankarsrum has a range of different pasta rollers to help you make fresh pasta at home so, not only can the Ankarsrum stand mixer make pasta dough, but it can also roll it into sheets and different kinds of pasta strips like tagliatelli.
The Ankarsrum Assistent Original stand mixer utilises a rotating bowl which offers a more efficient and effective mixing process whereas the KitchenAid stand mixers have a rotating head instead.
After now using the mixer in depth for many months I’d like to say that I find this mixer does work fine and does anything you’d want but it’s slow despite what the advertising would have you believe. I used to find on my old stand mixer I would mix a 600g loaf in 20mins. With this mixer it takes more like 35mins. I’ve tried with both the roller and bread hook with similar results. So with hindsight I personally would have looked for a professional KA mixer but with the older hook style dough hook, NOT the spiral which I tried and found very poor. If you don’t mind the longer mixing times then the Ankarsrum is a solid mixer that looks good and should outlast anything.
Our old sage mixer died. After friends recommendation and research we got a kitchen aid but was hugely disappointed and returned it as the dough spiral hook was terrible. After yet more research we bit the bullet and ordered the Ankarsrum Assistant in black. When you spend that much on a mixer you want it to look nice and this doesn’t disappoint. It looks really good with the stainless steel bowl and mixer parts. The whole machine and bits oozes quality. When running the first thing you’ll notice is how quiet the motor is. The functionality is simple to use with just 2 nice dial switches on the front. I won’t deny my first loaves were rubbish but that was down to user error. Having seen videos saying it works so much quicker than a normal mixer and not to over work the dough I then didn’t knead it for long enough. My next thought has come out spot on. I used the scraper and white spinning kneady thing :). I found after about 16-18 mins the dough suddenly formed into a ball. That is what you are looking for. Only used it for dough so far but I’m sure it’ll do all the rest just as well. With 1kg dough it didn’t blink while my old mixer couldn’t do more than 500g. Based on reviews, I am expecting this mixer to out last me as a lot of people have them last 50 years plus. So when you look at it like that the high price tag doesn’t seem so bad. In summary it looks great, works brilliantly, big open bowl to easily add ingredients, doesn’t spray flour everywhere, stays put on the worktop, could mix more dough than I am ever likely to mix in one sitting and is quiet. I am very pleased with the mixer and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
