Tasty Kale Smoothies
Kale can be one of those veggies that has a strong flavour and most people dislike the taste. When you incorporate kale into a smoothie the flavour is masked by all the sweet fruit you add. However, we think the best kale smoothies use flavours that all work together. Below we have a number of recipes to get you started on your kale journey!
Pineapple Surprise
Ingredients
- 100ml unsweetened almond milk
- 50ml pineapple juice (try juicing your own pineapple as the taste will be so much better)
- 2 handfuls of kale
- 2 Apples
- 1 banana
Directions
combine all ingredients and blend on high until smooth.
Frozen Shake
Ingredients
- 100ml coconut water
- 1 frozen banana
- 50g frozen blueberries
- 1 tsp ginger (grated)
- 2 handfuls kale
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon honey
Combine all ingredients together and Blend on high until smooth. Add more coconut water if you want the consistency to be a little runnier.
Dessert Smoothie
Now, this smoothie is sweet but so fulfilling, you won't believe how healthy it is once you taste it as it really does taste like ice-cream! It's also suitable for vegans. You will need a blender that can puree nuts so we suggest a Vitamix or Blend Tech blender to keep you going.
Ingredients
- 100 ml almond milk
- 50 ml coconut milk
- ½ tsp ginger
- 2 bananas
- 3 handfuls of kale leaves
- 20g pistachios,
- 30g hazelnuts,
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 20g raw dates that have been pitted
- Ice
Directions
Combine all ingredients together in a blender. Blend on high until smooth.
Green Smoothie
Ingredients
- 50ml water
- Ice
- 1/2 avocado
- 2 handfuls kale
- 1 stalk celery (diced)
- 2 Gala apple
- 1 pear
- 1 tbsp ground flax seed
- Honey
Directions
Combine everything apart from the honey and flax seeds. Add the flax
seeds when everything has been blended. If it needs sweetening add
as much or as little honey as you like.
Chocolate and Kale Smoothies
Combining dark chocolate and kale is probably the best idea ever. This way you don’t feel like you're eating a gut full of kale but you are still reaping all the benefits. This one is best served in a bowl and can be decorated with anything you like.
Ingredients
- 200ml vanilla almond milk (if you can’t buy vanilla almond milk, just add vanilla extract to your milk)
- 2 handfuls kale
- 1 frozen banana
- 2 tbsp grated chocolate
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 1 tbsp of Acai powder
- Ice
- Chia seeds and berries to add as a topping.
Directions
Blend, almond milk, kale, bananas, protein powder, and almond butter. Blend on high until smooth. Add ice, and blend again.
Top with chia seeds berries.
Energizing Smoothie
Many of us need an energy boost during the day and instead of reaching for an energy drink or a cup of coffee, reach for this smoothie.
Ingredients
- 2 handfuls of purple kale
- 30g frozen strawberries
- 1tbsp coconut oil
- 10g raspberries
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp coconut nectar
- 50g cashews
- Handful Blueberries
- Ice
Directions
Combine kale, strawberries. coconut oil, coconut nectar, raspberries, blueberries, ice, and cashews in a blender. Blend together on high until mixture reaches a consistency you like. Add water if the smoothie is too thick.
